Gerrit's first wife, Misoura Hazzard, d. 20 May 1876. In the 1880 US Census we find Gerrit V. Ackert, age 66 (b. NY and both parents b. NY), a farmer, residing in Hayes, Charlevoix, Michigan with wife, Elizabeth Ackert, 33 (b. CAN, both parents b. NY), Gerrit's son, Hubert G. Ackert, 26 (b. MI; both parents b. NY), a laborer, and Elizabeth's daughter, Ellen Jane Wesley (should be Westlick), 11 (b. CAN; b. parents b. CAN). Children: (by first m. to John Westlick) Nellie^9 Jane Westlick b. 8 September 1868, CAN and d. 29 May 1955 in Battle Ground, WA. She m. Daniel Harvey Staley (b. abt 1852) on 15 November 1884 in Vancouver, WA. The 1920 US Census for Manor, Clark County, WA lists Daniel Staley, head, age 81? (unlikely because it is clearly 78 in the 1930 census), b. CAN and both parents b. CAN; his wife, Nellie, age 51 (b. CAN with both parents b. CAN), and children, Sam, 26, Daniel, 23, Albert, 21, Mildred, 11 and Ernest, 7 (all children b. WA). In the 1930 US Census for Battleground South, Clark County, WA, Daniel Staley, 78 resides with Nellie, age 61 and Samuel, age 36. Daniel Staley, Jr. was b. 25 April 1896, WA and d. 8 August 1973 in Sacramento, CA.

Gerrit Vandenburg Ackert, b. 28 Jul 1812, Saratoga, NY and d. 4 Apr 1899. He m. first to Misoura Hazzard (b. 11 Mar 1826, NY and d. 20 May 1876) on 23 Sep 1851. Children are: John MacGriffice Ackert (b. 30 Jul 1852, Beaver Island, Manitou, MI and d. 1936), Hubert Vandenburg Ackert (b. 12 Jan 1854, Beaver Island, MI and d. 25 Jan 1937), Sybrant Crawford Ackert (b. 7 Aug 1856, Beaver Island, MI and d. 13 Nov 1899), James Buchanan Ackert (b. 9 Nov 1858 White Lake, Oakland, MI and d. 30 Dec 1945), Polly Mariah Ackert (b. 7 Nov 1859, White Lake, MI and d. 19 Jul 1865), Althea Ann Ackert (b. 12 June 1861 White Lake, Oakland, MI and d. 12 Jul 1865), George McClelland Ackert (b. 10 Jul 1863 White Lake, Oakland, MI and d. Jul 1865) and Ella Christina Ackert (b. 8 Nov 1865 White Lake, Oakland, MI and d. 9 Dec 1926   It may be of interest to note the three of Gerrit and Misoura's children -- Polly (age 5), Althea (age 4) and George (age 2) died in July of 1865 while Missoura was pregnant with Ella (b. Nov 1865 and would live to age 61). Missoura died in 10 years after this tragedy at age 50.
